France "to gain most from GM crops"

France stands to gain most among EU countries from the introduction of genetically modified agriculture, according to a new study released by industry lobby group EuropaBio. Its authors claim to have carried out the first assessment of the potential impact of GM cultivation in Europe. They say gene-crops could improve farm income by over €1bn, with more than a quarter of this going to French farmers, while yields could increase by 7.8bn kilograms, allowing an area of land the size of Luxembourg to be taken out of cultivation. See EuropaBio press information.
