Norway finalises window collection scheme
Norwegian glass producers have agreed to a surcharge of NKr10 (€1.21) per window to finance a long-awaited voluntary collection and return system for double-glazed window frames contaminated by PCBs (EED 14/03/01). "Eighty-five per cent of our members have now accepted the surcharge and we expect to put it into effect in August," Arne Slettebøe of Ruteretur, the firm organising the scheme, told ENDS Europe DAILY. Setting it up had taken so long because several of the largest companies had been reluctant to join before their competitors, he added. See press release.
