Kyoto clean development plan progresses
The secretariat of the UN's Kyoto global warming protocol has announced the first practical steps towards establishing projects under the clean development mechanism (CDM). Baseline and monitoring methodologies have been approved for the first two projects, concerning a landfill in Brazil and an HFC decomposition scheme in South Korea. Acceptance of the methodologies by the CDM executive board means the project sponsors can now claim emission reduction credits under Kyoto by demonstrating that any climate benefits generated are additional to those that would have happened without their involvement.
