Italy gives €25m boost for greener SMEs
The Italian government has earmarked €25m over two years to subsidise small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) that gain certification under the environmental management system (EMS) standards ISO 14001 or Emas. The scheme is the first of its kind in Italy and will be run jointly by the environment ministry and SMEs' association Confcommercio. Uptake of certified EMSs was initially sluggish in Italy but firms are now showing increasing interest, a spokesperson for Confcommercio told ENDS Europe DAILY. Under the agreement, certified firms will also qualify for regulatory relief. See press release.
