Danish NGOs urge more nature protection
Denmark's four leading conservation NGOs have formed a "green front" and proposed an action plan - "Nature's Constitution" - to safeguard the country's natural environment in the face of what they claim is government indifference. The plan calls for tighter restrictions on pesticide spraying, fertilising and drainage works, and improved species and habitat protection. Environment minister Hans Christian Schmidt welcomed the initiative, adding that forthcoming legislation would cover many of the issues raised by the groups. See 2 September Danish press digest.
