Portugal's green information "inaccessible"
Portuguese citizens are being excluded from planning and environmental impact assessment (EIA) processes, in clear contradiction with obligations under the UN Århus convention, the National environment and sustainable development council has said. Having established "public demand for more involvement", the report recommends enhancing the role of electronic media, providing state funding for environmental NGOs, restoring obligatory public hearings in EIA proceedings, safeguarding the independence of EIA study teams and broadening the definition of "interested parties".
