Rough time ahead for EU energy products plan
A report of the first council of ministers' meeting on the proposed energy-using products (EUP) directive shows significant concerns over the plan among EU member states. Though they "broadly welcomed its approach and objectives", "much more time is needed" for consultations with other government departments, an information note on last month's meeting says. Heading a list of concerns are that the directive's scope may be too complex and its legal base inappropriate. The draft directive was tabled this summer after much agonising within the European Commission. See council note.
