Advance for Finnish nuclear power project
Finnish power firm TVO has revealed further progress in planning for a new nuclear power station. The project was approved in principle last year by the country's parliament (EED 24/05/02). An application for a construction licence could be made next year, and the company said it hoped to start commercial operation in 2009. TVO has now selected Olkiluoto, already a nuclear site, as the preferred location. It is continuing talks with a Framatome-Siemens consortium to build a 1,600 megawatt capacity pressurised water plant. See press release.
