Draft eco-design rules "must be strengthened"
Environmental group WWF has urged "more clarity and ambition" in a draft EU directive on the eco-design of energy-using products (EUP) issued by the European Commission in August. If strengthened, the directive could help bring energy efficiency to the top of the climate policy-making agenda, the group claims. The text currently fails to indicate precise goals, it complains. Nor does it list products to be covered or outline clear principles for setting minimum efficiency standards. The NGO also criticises the directive's emphasis on voluntary agreements. See position paper.
