Commission moves to extend Life programme
The European Commission has proposed extending by two years the third cycle of the EU's Life funding programme for environmental demonstration projects, due to expire in December 2004. The Commission wants EU governments to provide an extra €317m in 2005-2006 before a new funding mechanism is agreed for 2007 and beyond. Last week the European court of auditors reported serious flaws in the Commission's management of the second Life cycle (1996-1999), problems the Commission says have been rectified in the current funding campaign (EED 05/11/03).
