Ship emissions "may be twice earlier estimates"
Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from international shipping may be twice as high as previously thought, according to a new report. The findings by German marine diesel engine manufacturer MAN and a US marine studies institute are based on much higher estimates of marine fuel consumption. If validated, the research could have substantial impact on an ongoing EU debate on reducing ship releases of NOx, sulphur and other emissions (EED 21/11/02). See abstract of report.
