Greens urge EU-wide night flight ban
Green party MEPs in the European parliament have called for an immediate EU-wide ban on flights from all EU airports between 11pm and 7am in a bid to reduce nuisances to nearby residents. "We want the night to last at least eight hours for all European cicitizens," environment committee vice-chair Alexander de Roo said at a conference organised by the Greens to highlight the issue of aircraft noise. The group also called for an end to subsidies for the aviation industry as a means to cut pollutant emissions. See press release and conference details.
