EU's nuclear constitutional question returns
Environmental group Friends of the Earth Europe marked inter-governmental talks on a new EU constitution on Tuesday with furious criticism of an alleged proposal by Spain to merge the EU and Euratom atomic energy treaties. A convention that prepared a draft of the constitution this summer considered a similar step but rejected it (EED 14/07/03). The NGO is campaigning for Euratom to be abolished and on Tuesday claimed support from Austria and Ireland for a full review of the treaty. See press release.
