"Green" Anglo-Welsh water management law
A major water law approved by the UK parliament on Thursday will provide "a sound foundation" for ensuring sustainable use of water resources, according to the Anglo-Welsh environment agency. Under the water act 2003, all new abstraction licences will be time-limited, based on volume rather than use, and linked to local water resources. Water firms and all public authorities will be required to further water conservation. See details of the law and UK environment ministry press release.
