"Slimmer" EU fertiliser rules to take effect
A complete overhaul and simplification of EU rules on mineral fertilisers is set to enter force on 11 December after being published in the bloc's official journal. The 194-page regulation was approved by ministers in April and the European parliament in September. It was developed under the EU's "simpler legislation for the internal market" (Slim) programme, and replaces a series of earlier laws. It lays down detailed rules on the composition, definition, identification, traceability and labelling of fertilisers. Additional safeguards are included on ammonium nitrate fertilisers with high nitrogen content. See regulation 2003/2003.
