Electronics firms mull pan-European recycling
A coalition of large European electrical and electronic goods manufacturers set up in 2002 is analysing the potential benefits of pooling resources to minimise recycling costs resulting from the forthcoming Weee directive. Sony, Braun, HP and Electrolux, who formed the group, said on Wednesday that they were "undertaking business planning". The European recycling platform's chairman, Hans Korfmacher of Braun, claimed there was potential to "reduce ... annual recycling costs by millions of euros" by working together.
