UK raises green energy support and target
UK junior energy minister, Stephen Timms, announced on Monday proposals to extend support for the development of renewable energy sources for another five years beyond 2011, to reach an increased target share of 15.4% by 2016. The UK government aims to generate 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020 (EED 24/02/03). The measure's declared goal is to provide "more confidence on the part of the investment sector". Initial reactions have been cautious. See press release.
