Further evidence of declining sperm counts
British researchers have reported a big fall in men's sperm count in just 13 years, adding to concerns over the trend, for which some groups blame in part exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EED 08/05/00). Tests on 7,500 men attending a fertility centre in Aberdeen showed a 29% drop in sperm concentration between 1989 and 2002. Preliminary analysis suggests that the trend is independent of age and period of abstinence, the scientists added. The results were reported on Monday at a scientific meeting held in Liverpool.
