Berlin renewable energy conference kicks off
A major European conference on renewable energy began in Berlin on Monday with industry urging the EU to target 20% of energy to be supplied from renewables by 2020. ENDS Europe DAILY will report in more detail from the meeting later this week. In related developments, an official UK study released on Friday forecast that the renewables sector could employ 35,000 people by 2020, up from 8,000 currently. Meanwhile, green group WWF warned of slow progress on renewables by new EU states. See conference webpages and EREC projection, plus UK study and WWF report.
