German government approves EU green rules
Germany's cabinet on Wednesday approved plans to transpose three recent EU environmental directives into national law. An amendment to federal immission control law will implement a 2002 directive controlling air pollution from small petro-engined machinery (EED 21/10/02). A second regulation transposes two 2003 directives, the first on promotion of biofuels in transport (EED 21/05/03), the second requiring all road fuels to be sulphur free by 2009 (EED 26/03/03). All petrol and diesel sold in Germany already meets this requirement, the environment ministry noted. See press releases on machinery emissions and fuels.
