Panel suggests lower Swedish biofuels target

A government committee has recommended that Sweden reduce its national target for the use of renewable fuels in transport from 3.3 to 3% by 2005 in order to "boost the dynamic of the process" and to bring it closer to a non-binding 2% EU target set in last year's biofuels directive (EED 21/05/03). The panel reserves judgement on other issues such as distribution and compliance by petrol stations, but notes that measures proposed so far are "encumbered by shortcomings and deficiencies".
