Franco-German call for climate policy action
France and Germany's environment ministers on Tuesday jointly demanded that the EU adopt a target of sourcing 20% of all energy from renewables by 2020, following a bilateral meeting in La Baule, France. The move adds momentum to a campaign for such a target already being waged by European renewable energy interests (EED 21/01/04). Jürgen Trittin and Roselyne Bachelot also urged Russia to ratify the Kyoto protocol, emphasised the importance of the EU's carbon emissions trading scheme and sought action to achieve average new car CO2 emissions of 120g/km by 2012.
