Germany passes 3% renewable energy share
The share of renewables in Germany's total energy consumption exceeded 3% in 2003, nearly double the level ten years ago, environment ministry statistics show. Renewables as a share of electricity reached 7.9%, almost exactly on track to meet Germany's 2010 target under the EU renewable electricity directive. The statistics were compiled by a new working group, Agee-Stat, set up to harmonise and verify figures provided by various official and independent bodies involved with renewable energy. The group brings together experts from a variety of these organisations. See press release.
