Pro-nuclear EU advisory report published
The European economic and social committee (EESC), an official EU advisory body, has defended nuclear power as essential for Europe to achieve sustainable development and critical for compliance with the Kyoto protocol on climate change. Its controversial report was due for release at the end of January (EED 26/01/04). It was finally passed in plenary this week by a margin of 68 votes to 33. Europe's nuclear industry association Foratom said it hoped the report would "mark a turning point" in EU debate. See press releases from EESC and Foratom.
