Arctic environment "faces drastic change"
In a joint report, the European environment agency and UN environment programme have painted a sombre picture of the Arctic environment and called on decision makers, especially in the EU, to address the challenges seriously. "Today it is industrialised countries, including the EU nations, that are the main users [of Arctic resources] and the main sources of pollution affecting the region", said EEA chief Jacqueline McGlade. "The EU in particular has the potential to take a leading role in catalysing the response on Arctic nations". See press release and the report.
