Council issues non-road machinery emissions law
The council of ministers has published the final text of a new EU directive cutting engine emissions in a wide range of non-road mobile machinery such as trains, construction vehicles and canal barges. The legislation was agreed politically last autumn (EED 14/10/03). A first round of cuts will bite from between 2005-8, with a second round from 2010 for all machinery except inland waterway vessels. The new document is the product of lengthy legal and linguistic checks and will shortly be rubber-stamped by ministers. See non-road mobile machinery directive text and council note.
