More UK action on marine environment urged
A British parliamentary committee has urged the government to step up action to protect the marine environment. Under attack is the UK government's delay in finalising two ongoing reviews of action. As well as calling for measures to stop damage to the ocean floor and a decline in marine biodiversity, the MPs also highlighted a "pressing need" for an overhaul of the legislative and institutional framework currently governing the seas. Better co-ordination is a must, they say, together with more research and more efficient data management. See report.
