PVC industry voluntary commitment "on target"
Europe's PVC sector has claimed to be making "steady progress" in a ten-year voluntary drive to reduce its environmental impacts. The industry's fourth review of its Vinyl 2010 programme, covering developments in 2003, reports achievement of an interim target to recycle 25% of "collectable and available" waste PVC roof membranes, window frames and pipes. The target now rises to 50% by 2005. The industry's efforts to get its voluntary commitment formally endorsed by the European Commission has yet to bear fruit (EED 17/07/02). See Vinyl 2010 website, press release and progress report.
