Swedish public in U-turn on nuclear power

For the first time since Sweden voted in a referendum in 1980 to phase out the use of nuclear power by 2010, a public opinion poll suggests that more Swedes now want to keep it than not, Svenska Dagbladet newspaper reported on Tuesday. The survey, by Gothenburg University's SOM Institute, found 46% in favour of keeping or expanding existing facilities, while 34% wanted the nuclear programme to end at least when those reactors still operational reached the end of their working lives.
