Greener local government "can save money"
The public sector can make huge cost savings through better energy and water use and waste management, according to a study for the German environment agency. Better use of buildings, vehicles and machinery can cut energy costs by 10-20% and heating bills by as much as 60%. Agency president Andreas Troge said that economic incentives were an important key to achieving environmental goals. He called on public bodies to join Emas, Europe's environmental management system, to help unlock potential environmental savings. See press release.
