Greens urge tighter EU rules on GM seed purity
Environmentalists, farmers and Green MEPs have called on the European Commission to stop and rethink before proposing - as it is expected to do later this month - a limit of 0.5% accidental genetically modified (GM) content in seed lots (EED 23/09/04). Activist coalition Save our Seeds wants the limit to be set at the detectability threshold of 0.1% or less. The Greens in the European parliament said it would be "irresponsible" to set the limit any higher. See Save our Seeds and Greens' press release.
