German renewables support law blocked
Germany's opposition-dominated upper parliamentary house has delayed entry-into-force of revised rules on promotion of renewable energy. The new law should have entered force on 1 June (EED 02/04/04). It will now have to go to mediation between the two parliamentary houses. The delay infuriated the Green party, the junior member of the governing coalition. "The CDU/CSU (opposition parties) seem to stop at no end to block successful government policies," said an outraged Michaele Hustedt, energy policy spokesperson for the Greens.
