Bavaria issues drinks pack deposits plan
Bavarian prime minister Edmund Stoiber has proposed de-linking German deposits on one-way drinks containers from the market share of refillables. Mr Stoiber's plan comes in the wake of criticism of Germany's current refillables quota from a European court of justice advisor (EED 06/05/04). Germany's states are due to vote in the Bundesrat on 11 June on a different federal government plan that would also removed the refillables quota (EED 11/05/04). Unlike the latter, Bavaria's plan would apply deposits only to containers for beer, mineral water and carbonated soft drinks. See Bavarian government.
