"Anti-progress" de Palacio slated by NGOs
Environmental groups have given EU energy and transport commissioner Loyola de Palacio an ironic "climate killer award". The move brings to a climax years of rising antipathy among environmentalists towards the Spanish politician. In Brussels on Wednesday, NGOs accused Ms de Palacio of "grossly irresponsible political leadership". They attacked her "many outspoken remarks" against the Kyoto protocol, her "pro-nuclear agenda", her "environmentally regressive" transport policy proposals and her "meagre record" on renewable energy.
