European towns make sustainability pledge
Over 100 European municipalities signed a commitment to sustainable development on Friday at the close of a three-day conference in Aalborg, Denmark. The statement's ten themes include pledges to promote sustainable consumption, green planning and design, sustainable mobility, citizens' health protection and a sustainable local economy. Aalborg Mayor Henning Jensen called for bridges to be built between the commitments and a future EU urban environment strategy (EED 16/02/04). See Aalborg conference.
