Germany "completes PCB phase-out"
Germany has completely phased out polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), beating an EU deadline by six years, the environment ministry said on Wednesday. Just a handful of PCB-containing appliances awaited safe disposal using the country's plentiful capacity, the ministry added. Ironically, the ministry's statement comes only a week after Germany was condemned in the European court of justice for failing to communicate a national PCB disposal plan by a deadline stated in a 1996 EU directive on PCB wastes.
