EU showcases efforts to reduce animal testing
The European Commission on Wednesday showcased EU-funded research aimed at reducing and replacing animal testing of chemicals, drugs and cosmetics. The Commission's proposals for the new Reach EU chemicals policy have sparked fears of greatly increased animal testing needs, and calls for these to be reduced (EED 16/06/04). Meanwhile, European chemical industry association Cefic has awarded €100,000 for research aimed at reducing the need for animal testing in toxicology testing.
