Danes urge Sweden to shut down Barsebäck
The Danish government has called on Sweden unilaterally to close down the remaining operational reactor at its Barsebäck nuclear power station, Jyllands-Posten newspaper reports. The demand follows an admission by Swedish industry minister Leif Pagrotsky that the government's two-year-old policy of negotiating such closures with power firms (EED 20/03/02) has yet to yield results, the paper says. Successive Danish governments have been campaigning for a complete shut-down of Barsebäck, which is only 20 km from their capital Copenhagen, since 1987. See article.
