Reach comes under international scrutiny
EU trading partners reiterated concerns over the bloc's Reach chemicals policy on 1 July at a meeting of the World trade organisation (WTO) technical barriers to trade committee. The EU notified the regulation to the WTO in January, drawing a series of negative comments (EED 23/03/04). Last week, the USA, China, Taiwan, Thailand and a group of south-east Asian countries warned of negative consequences on their economies and chemical industries. They also complained that Reach's registration requirements were too broad. The EU promised to respond to comments made. See WTO technical barriers to trade pages.
