Wind industry demands mandatory EU targets
Europe's wind energy industry has urged the European Commission to propose legally binding national targets for expanding the share of renewably produced electricity. The demand follows the EU executive's prediction in May that governments will miss currently non-binding targets in the EU's 2000 renewable electricity directive (EED 26/05/04). Responding to the Commission's May communication, the European wind energy association also branded as a "serious misconception" any belief that the EU's industrial carbon emission trading system will benefit renewables in the short-term.
