Portuguese sustainability strategy published
The Portuguese government last Wednesday published a national sustainable development strategy. The strategy is the product of two years' work by a commission appointed by ex-prime minister and new European Commission president Durão Barroso. It draws on information from all government departments to diagnose the "real difficulties of the country", including Portugal's energy dependency, fragile economic model and vulnerability to climate change. Six objectives are set for the period to 2015. An implementation plan and quantified targets are to be published shortly. See press release and strategy.
