Plan for "integrated" EU nature funding

Future EU co-funding of the bloc's Natura 2000 network of protected natural sites will be integrated into existing instruments, not channelled through a new, dedicated funding vehicle, the European Commission has decided. In a paper on Natura 2000 financing issued in mid-July the EU executive said integration would make management of Natura 2000 sites "part of the wider land management policies" of the EU and would "avoid duplication and overlap" of funding instruments. Detailed plans are to appear in legislative proposals for EU spending from 2007-13. See Natura 2000 financing plan.
