Norway mulls double-glazing crackdown

Norway is close to introducing legislation requiring importers and producers to take responsibility for disposing of old double-glazed window frames containing the persistent chemical PCBs, the environment ministry has announced. Citing a letter from the Norwegian business association NHO supporting a compulsory collection-and-return system, the ministry said that a voluntary agreement with industry signed in 2002 had yielded "positive" results. But it had also allowed a number of companies to "sneak out of" any financial commitment to the scheme. (EED 09/08/01). See press release.
