EU Life funding programme extended

Ministers have extended the EU Life environmental project funding programme by two years to the end of 2006. The deal had been pre-agreed with the European parliament. It is based on a European Commission proposal aiming to bring Life into line with the EU's general financial planning timetable (EED 10/11/03). Portugal voted against while Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain abstained. In an accompanying statement signed also by Cyprus and the Czech Republic, these countries said Life should have more money and a more representative management committee.
