Shining future predicted for German solar power
German solar electricity generating capacity should reach 300 megawatts this year, double the figure in 2003, according to national solar power industry association, UVS. The association attributed its upbeat outlook to new national renewable energy support rules, which took effect on 1 August (EED 18/06/04). Meanwhile, a new report from the solar research unit of Germany's Fraunhofer institute claims that by 2010 one-fifth of the nation's houses will be use passive solar design to achieve self-heating and cooling.
