Norway pushes "eco-friendly" gas power
A Norwegian government white paper on "eco-friendly gas power technologies", released on Friday, calls for the appointment of a special body to research the feasibility of building carbon dioxide emission-free natural gas-fired power stations. The issue is so controversial in Norway that it has already brought down one government (EED 09/03/00). Also identified as priorities are the creation of new infrastructure to encourage domestic use of natural gas and a target date of 2006 for implementation of a joint Norwegian-Swedish green certificates market.
