Swedish green electricity revenues "missing"
Of SKr1.3 billion (€141 million) collected from electricity consumers through Sweden's green certificates scheme last year, only half has been invested as intended in alternative energy development or subsidies, Dagens Nyheter newspaper reports. Of the missing revenues, SKr 420m has been used "to plug holes in the exchequer" and the rest has "fallen by the wayside", the newspaper claims. The system, in place since May last year, is intended to fund an increase of 10 terawatt hours in electricity production from renewables by 2010. The Swedish Energy Agency is currently reviewing the scheme. See Dagens Nyheter article.
