Spain to triple wind generation capacity
The Spanish industry ministry announced on Tuesday it was studying ways to boost renewable energy production in order to meet demanding Kyoto targets and offset a soaring imported fuel bill. According to a ministry spokesman the objectives include a tripling of both wind generation capacity (to 20,000 megawatts installed capacity) and biodiesel production (to 2 million tonnes oil equivalent) by 2010. A "complete and detailed" revision of the country's 1999 renewables promotion plan should be in place by the end of the year; it will identify "measures to encourage companies to invest".
