Germany seeks EU support for ceramic fibre ban
The German government has requested European Commission backing to extend prohibition of carcinogenic ceramic fibres beyond rules agreed at EU level in 2001 (EED 11/10/00). Ceramic fibres used in some construction materials, household appliances, certain boilers and in car brake linings would be affected. The European Commission must consider Germany's request within three months. If it agrees, it could propose prohibition at EU level so as to maintain Europe's single market.
