Industry weighs into Austrian renewables row

The European renewables energies federation (Eref) has protested against already controversial plans by Austrian economy minister Martin Bartenstein to replace renewable electricity "feed-in", or fixed tariff support with a tendering and quota system (EED 04/08/04). The move would result in "sabotage of independent power production" and lower growth for renewables. As a result, Austria would "stagger and fail" to meet its target for renewable electricity under EU law, Eref president Peter Danielssen predicted. See press release.
